We are very lucky to be located in a purpose built flexible learning space BER and also in the D block building. The year 5 students make great use of this learning space through small group, class and whole year level activities. Grade 5 teachers, value the individuality of each student and cater for specific needs by differentiating learning tasks to maintain student engagement. Our learning programs involve a great deal of collaborative planning and team teaching to ensure we effectively cater for the diverse range of abilities, needs and interests, whilst encompassing all areas of the Victorian curriculum.
All students participate in a range of specialist programs. These include Visual Arts, Physical Education, Auslan and Library. Information Communication Technology is incorporated into students’ lessons daily, through the use of Interactive Whiteboards, iPads and laptop computers.
Grade 5 students also have many opportunities to participate in a wide variety of sports throughout the year, learning about the importance of teamwork, sportsmanship and commitment to a team whilst improving their skills in sport.
In addition, all students have the opportunity to learn to play an instrument in the Instrumental Music Program, sing in the school choir and perform in the school production.
Students participate in a range of incursions and excursions throughout the year. A highlight for this year level is the camp program. The year 5 students will be attending a 3 day camp at Sovereign Hill in Ballarat. During the year the students are able to participate in a range of extra-curricular activities such as, Energy Break Through, Kids Club, Sign Choir and Fitness Club – just to name a few!
